Determining The College Graduation Rate

Graduation rates college

As you’re probably already well aware of, college graduation rates are the percentage of students who graduate from an educational institution. What you may not realize is that college athlete graduation rates, college football graduation rates, college graduation rates by country, college graduation rates by state and even college graduation rates by race will vary. For this reason, you may want to know how to calculate the college graduation rate.

In order to determine the college graduation rate for a particular school, you’ll want to find out just how many people are actually graduating from that school. Next, you’ll want to know how many of these students who entered the school as freshmen. Now add in the number of students who transferred to the school and subtract the number of students who transferred out of the school. Finally, divide the number of students graduating by the number of students in the graduating class. This will provide you with the college graduation rate for that particular school.

Here’s an example of how to do the aforementioned math in order to determine the college graduation rate. If you start with 2,050 students in the freshmen class and you have 11 students transfer in and 12 students transfer out, then you’ll have a total of 2049 students in the graduating class. Now simply divide the 2,000 students by 2049 students and you’ll get 0.976, which is 97.6 percent.

Now that you have had a look at the general formula that’s used in calculating the graduation rates college, you’ll be better able to determine graduation rates by college. As you’ve seen, this is relatively easy for anyone to be able to do. This is great because the information can be very important since it does show just how committed schools really are to ensuring that their students actually graduate. Those schools that have high graduation rates have less students who fail in school and more students who actually earn a degree. These are the schools that you’ll want to be a part of.
