The vast majority of Americans over the age of 25, about 87%, have earned their high school degrees. That being said, only about 30% of people in the same age range have earned a bachelor’s degree.
The underlying tension here is is that many higher paying jobs require a minimum education of a bachelor’s degree. And with a stabilizing, yet far from booming economy, it is especially important that students consult a Best College list which can help to guide them to the schools that will equip them with the tools they need to succeed.
For example, if you’re interested in checking out the best colleges for photography, you’ll likely want to peruse the offerings of the California Institute of the Arts and the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, among others. If attending the best university for computer science is your goal, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Carnegie Mellon University, and Stanford University will likely be on your shortlist.
It is worth noting that no matter which college or university you choose to attend, there is nothing wrong with taking more than four years to get your bachelor’s degree if necessary. The majority of full time students attending for the first time, about 58% in fact, received their degrees within six years’ time. In the state of New York specifically, the demographics broke down the following way. Among African American students, 44% got their degrees within six years, while roughly 63% of Caucasian students got their degrees in six years.
When conducting your college search, it makes a lot of sense to consult a Best University Guide, like the one published annually by U.S. News and World Report. Whether you’re looking for the best colleges for photography or psychology, share your questions, comments, and suggestions in the forum below.
